Speaker         Pierre Malan, while a local resident, as an oceanographer, he travels extensively with his wife, taking small parties of fee-paying guests to destinations as diverse as the Antarctic, Madagascar, Costa Rica, Mozambique. The diversity of scenery was brilliantly captured by a wonderful collection of Nikon Digital photos including the exotic wildlife in pin-sharp close-ups as to a backup to a very entertaining talk.

Past activities:  Walk: 10th April: arranged by Ray Sanger, through the quiet peace of Newlands Forest, took some 12 members/wives an hour and a half to traverse, although the last stretch up a (dried up river bed/), strewn with boulders could have been exciting if the rains that fell on the SPAR visit had come a week earlier.
Later we joined up with Ray and 12 non-walkers  at Barristers  Newlands for lunch and drinks to round off a gentle sunny day

Outing:          17th April to SPAR Distribution Centre, arranged by Oliver Price. 19 members attended and again awards had to be issued for supreme navigation skills on the part of drivers. Members thought it was a very interesting and stimulating visit, made doubly so by our being given a bottle of red wine each.
The elements however, were not with us. A monsoon like storm made reaching our cars a very damp exercise and the journey to CATTLE BARON, where we had lunch was fraught with danger and some of us came close to practicing our aquaplaning skills!. Lunch was attended by 19.

Fellowship : 24th April: arranged by Don Bothwell at Madeira hosted 12 members enjoyed friendly service, good food, wine and company in groups of 4 at a table. Wished goodbye to overseas member, John Anderson till he next visits, and Oliver Price who shares time in England and South Africa
